1,000 and counting! Our WaveRadar Rex and Rex2 sensors have officially surpassed four digits in global sales, and we would like to extend a huge thank you to our customers worldwide!

Launched in 1999, Rex has been tried and tested across the globe. Its impact is outstanding, from offshore platforms, cruise ships and bustling ports, Rex became the mainstay of modern wave measurement.

Today, we are delighted to celebrate the 1000th unit sold, a significant milestone that reflects years of innovation and development.

A trusted favourite

Before the original WaveRadar Rex was developed, studies in the mid-1990s highlighted the need for a wave measurement tool that could successfully collect live data.

Exposed to the continuous harsh elements of the ocean, companies found that their equipment was getting destroyed. With a platform-mounted system, the risks of damages are minimal and can save companies thousands of pounds. Furthermore, maintenance, repair and recovery of Rex is far easier and safer due to its mounted static position.

With its accuracy and robustness, WaveRadar stands the test of time with many operating successfully after 10 years in the harshest weather conditions.

The earliest adopters of WaveRadar Rex include large companies such as Fugro, Shell, and Mearsk.

Evolving into  WaveRadar Rex2

In the late 2010s, we decided that it was time to give the original Rex a well-deserved retirement, as we began developing a new sensor to keep up with demand and the latest technology.

After a few years of development under the radar, the new and improved Rex2 was launched in 2020 ensuring only the highest standards and performance set by its predecessor.

Rex2 is half the size and weight of the legacy Rex, consumes 10 times less power, and has a 25% greater range whilst maintaining its accuracy.

The new higher frequency sampling unit enables a greater measurement range of up to 80m with an exceptionally high accuracy of 3-6mm. With its lower power consumption, Rex2 can be installed without grid electricity.

WaveView Connect

WaveView Connect software provides robust real-time processing of raw ocean wave data from one or more sensors, producing a full suite of deterministic, spectral and tidal sea state parameters. With the capacity to be remotely connected, it makes a perfect choice for both end users and system integrators.

WaveConfiguator software

Available on Rex2 only, this custom-built software is freely available and complements our WaveView Connect software suite.
