RS Aqua has pledged to complete a litter pick up at Port Solent Marina once a month throughout 2020, to track ocean waste and help keep the marina clean. The team has started working closely with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to conduct and properly record their findings.

The first clean was conducted in early February (at low tide!) and the team were surprised by the amount of waste that had washed up – they worked tirelessly to collect 97kg of rubbish in just 45 minutes! The ocean waste included: 2 bikes (!!), various lost boat parts, rope and lots of plastic.

Nathan and Phoebe, the newest members of the RS Aqua team, will be signing up to become our Marine Ambassadors, and will work closely with the marine team at the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to work on the Secrets of the Solent project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This project aims to raise the understanding and appreciation of the Solent’s marine environment to ensure its future use and protection.
