At RS Aqua we’re always on the lookout for what customers need, their pain points, and how to make their day-to-day operations easier. Whether that’s creating a system that works with their current technology or creating a solution from scratch with affordability in mind.

By listening to our customers’ feedback, understanding the challenges they face and identifying where existing technology is limited, our research and development team find creative solutions. We are pleased to announce the launch of Relay, our latest addition to the Aquaculture range.

Relay is a remote switch that connects with your existing aquaculture technology, allowing equipment to be remotely controlled when environmental conditions change.

Why is remote access to Fish Farms important?

Fish farmers battle tough conditions, travelling and working on remote fish farm sites. Everyday maintenance of the pens is essential to ensure that fish stocks remain healthy and thriving.

Customers using the Innovasea suite of technologies (aquaMeasure and aquaHub) can check and measure water conditions with existing systems. Now, with the addition of the RS Aqua Relay, users can remotely switch on and off devices from afar, avoiding tough conditions, the need for crew and a skippered boat, reducing the overall cost of maintenance.

How does Relay work?

The idea is simple. When an environmental threshold is reached using a platform such as Innovasea Realfish Pro, Relay sends a command to a SIM-based switch.

Developed in response to customer feedback, Relay integrates with existing technology to automatically activate aeration within fish pens, helping maintain optimal dissolved oxygen levels. By responding as conditions change, it reduces fish stress, supports healthy feeding behaviour and improves feed conversion efficiency.

From there, operators can remotely activate, pause and monitor pumps, compressors, samplers and other connected equipment.

When is Relay available to purchase?

Relay is now available to purchase. Our technical team will support with the configuration of Relay to new or existing systems.

FAQs

Relay can ensure that your compressors or oxygen generators only operate when needed, for example in periods of low dissolved oxygen (DO) or when chlorophyll levels are high.

Relay interrogates the Realfish Pro environmental system every 2 minutes. If dissolved oxygen falls below a safe level (decided by the user) the aerators or oxygen generators with Relay installed will activate, protecting fish while low DO conditions exist.

In the same way that Relay can protect against low DO conditions, during other types of environmental challenges, such as high phytoplankton levels or water being on the warmer side, Relay can operate aeration systems to lift colder, clearer water up into the net penshelping protect them.

Yes, the equipment that Relay is fitted to can either be operated using the manual controls or remotely by sending an SMS message.

Yes, Relay is largely hardware agnostic, but we advise that you contact us first with your requirements and existing infrastructure so that we can confirm compatibility.

If your site has Realfish Pro sensors for a parameter, Relay can work with itDO, salinity, turbidity, BGA, chlorophyll, temperature. But its operative abilities aren’t just restricted to protective measures such as aeration or oxygenation. Relay can operate sampling pumps to take samples of the water when chlorophyll levels are high, enabling fish health or environmental teams to understand the composition and density of plankton blooms.
