RS Aqua is delighted to announce we have supplied a ROWE Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) to Digital Concepts Engineering (DCE) to be used on one of their X-series remotely operated vehicles (ROV). DCE specialise in development of unmanned ground vehicles used in agriculture, defence, and nuclear sectors.
The X-series ROV is being developed as part of the UK’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) Map the Gap competition. Map the Gap will develop a submersible ROV carrying data sensors, soil sampling tools and sonar equipment, which will be used alongside aerial drones for all-terrain surveys.
The ROWE ADCP supplied will allow DCE’s ROV to accurately collect current profile measurements of shallow water areas such as rivers, streams, bogs, and others. This will give troops a full understanding of these water obstacles and allow them to navigate them safely.
Lionel Nierop, DCE’s Business Development and Operations Director, commented:
‘Our approach to the project is to select proven, dependable sensors such as the Rowe ADCP and to mesh them with cutting-edge technologies including a novel multi-domain vehicle (capable of operating on land and underwater) and a data-aggregation and visualisation tool developed for nuclear decommissioning. In this way, we’re able to deliver a reliable but transformational demonstration of capability at an affordable price for the customer’.
